Service learning has helped me to understand that in order to get results, we need to put in effort. This is because, for example, if we did not put in any effort into selling the gift packs we packed, we would get absolutely nowhere in raising funds for the less fortunate.

This activity has helped me to realise that there were many other people, far less fortunate then I am. I complain about no having this or that, which were items I only wanted, but Isee how many families in Singapore are short of basic necessities like food, shelter and even education for the children (And to say we complain about not liking school). I have learnt to be contented with what I already have, and count whatever else I am given, I should count it as a blessing.
It was very difficult to sell the 'Fun Packs' in school during recess. For one, many students tried bargaining with us concerning the price of the funpacks costing $2.50.
Here were some of the items in the funpack!
Oreo

Mamee Noodles
Jelly
I found it difficult to reason with them about why we are even doing this. Some of my classmates almost lost their cool. But those were just the minority. The others went around the canteen to continue selling more funpacks. I was most of the time at the counter, managing the money and the counting of the funpacks sold. Being able to handle the money, I felt very encouraged at the amount of money that people had given in contributing to such a cause. I do hope that i can continue to be given the opportunity to serve the country in similar activities that help the less fortunate.
