3D Tengku Sharil (34)

An Oreo packet, a mamee packet, a packet of salty crackers, a piece of jelly and a piece of chocolate all packed in a small piece of plastic and together,  a fun pack. For our service learning, we were tasked to sell these fun packs at a price of $2.50 each. These experience of selling these fun packs made me think more about the community around me as I approached different people to sell them the fun packs and I thought about the importance of doing this, to help others. I thought about some of the people around me who were not as fortunate as most of us and needed help financially and I realised by doing this, although the money raised would not totally relieve the needy of their financial burden, but it would relieve some of it. I knew that if more people helped, then more of the needy's financial burden would be relieved. And through that, I understood the idea of "its the thought that counts"

Through this sale of fun packs, I realised that most of us Singaporeans were stingy in using our money to buy other's products but on the mention of our cause of doing it for charity, more people stopped on the thought that by purchasing a fun pack, they would be in a way, donating to charity and eventually they purchased it. I then knew that although that most of us are stingy with our money, we would still spend money to donate to charity.

In the future even though I am still not too sure of what I would be doing, I am determined to link whatever I would be doing to charity so I will be able to help the less fortunate as I know from helping others, their happiness from the help they have recieved and their gratefulness to the donors will be enough to fill the donor with happiness and satisfaction at their charitable cause which encourages me to contribute more to charity in the future.
